Hope your week’s off to a great start! It’s been quiet over here, after the craziness of the New Year’s Weekend. But quiet is also productive, being the introvert that I really am. Been working on my remake of Michael McDonald‘s incredible song “What A Fool Believes“. I just posted two versions of the song to my Facebooks (Alex and Danny), but there are many others, including covers from respected artists like Aretha Franklin and George Michael (even Michael Jackson got in on the fun but was never credited) ; the confusion notwithstanding, the bonafide 1978 original was written for the band The Doobie Brothers by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins (who, to add to the song’s complex history, actually released a solo live version several months prior to the Doobie Brothers version). That song went on to top the Billboard the following year, and to win 2 Grammys the year after that, for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. It’s such a thoroughly good tune that a Youtube user by the name of lampedusa poignantly commented on one of the many Youtube versions:

I don’t even listen to this genre of music. I can’t say I’m a Doobie Brothers fan even remotely. But every so often one hears a song that is so unbelievably well written and pleasant to listen to that it transcends genre. I couldn’t agree more. The song, which has also served as the song du jour for timelessly fun and countless late night crooning sessions for my actor buddy Joshua Henry and I, is indeed genre-transcending. Which is why I’ve been working on a House Music remake since last summer. Up until recently, I’d hit a roadblock, but the quietness of this week led to a major breakthrough in a bassline chord progression and vocal arrangement of my version, which I’ll release soon, in anticipation of and as a thank you for the 30,000 hits Dance Is A Feeling Music Blog is expected to hit within a few days.
